One year ago, I started working on some dubstep tracks, meant to be the foundation of a dj/live collaboration between Zzzune, Ubebe and I. Unfortunately, my hard disc crashed, taking these and a lot of other ideas and sketches with it to it's grave. All I had left were some bounces of the tracks as they were at the time. I have dusted off and tied together the remains and made them into an EP.
Even in these flawed and raw versions, it is a postcard from last year, a moment frozen in time and an obituary to any plans of ever venturing into the realms of the dark side of dubstep again.
Exclusive!Posted by Zzzune Thu, October 22, 2009 13:34:37 You've probably heard the remix of Turboweekend's Something or Nothing by danish producerteam, Jkamata & 2000F that Kraken rec. put out a couple of months back. For their new single, Trouble Is, Turboweekend has chosen a UK native to give their song a bit of bass weight and tweaked synths that is the trademark of young producer, Joker. First play on BBC 1 Extra - just listen to the host of the show, whispering in a sensual way: "The Lead singers voice is amazing", haha, great:
Exclusive!Posted by Zzzune Sat, June 13, 2009 22:35:04 Mateo & Matos, NYC.
Here's a little treat for you, last night we played at Dunkel and decided to record our set. Inspired by Zip's amazing set last sunday at the Distoriton afterparty, I went home and dug out a couple of old house favorites and threw them in; there's a Mateo & Matos mix of their classic track from 1999, Just A Dab, a massive Derick Carter remix of Super Collider, the epic Beau Mot Plage by Isolee aswell as some James Braun exclusives from his forthcoming Ep with Dan M. Apart from that there's tracks by Dave Aju, Ekkohaus, Martinez, The Supermen Lovers, Miguel Toro, Bloody Mary, Carl Craig and many others. If you need more info on some of the tracks please leave a comment and we'll get back to you. Despite fair amounts of alcohol, worn out needles, flirting and cigaret smoking I think this is a joyful journey through the dirty outskirts of music they call House. No need to be cocky about it; Tell us what you think.
Exclusive!Posted by Zzzune Sat, April 25, 2009 00:52:28 While the movie Berlin Calling really is not worth wasting time on (what'd you expect? Make a coke addicted dj play the main character and expect good acting? Nahhh...) the real Paul Kalkbrenner sure is worth spending some time with. Especially when he is doing one of his raving yet melodic live shows as he did here in Copenhagen last night.
As you probably know we are throwing a party on january 30th along with Ung Flugt, which is one among many things which have been keeping us busy lately. If you have plans on attending you might as well get in for free! So head over to Soundvenue and win your tickets by answering one simple question (psst... why is this post called The 400 Blows?) And remember once you get in we're giving away the favourite drink of Specktors, Campari - ehm... yummy!
While you're at it drop by Jonas10's blog. He is the guy who made the drawings for the flyer as well as the one above and we really dig his style.
Exclusive!Posted by James Braun Sun, November 23, 2008 17:13:48 I've been talking about and have been waiting a long time for this, and now finally the time has come to present you to one of the best and yet most secret djs of Denmark, namely Ulrik Bebe. This new mix of his takes off slowly down the path of the new, more techy side of dubstep, which Zzzune called for a couple of weeks back. With synths textures and echo ambiences rooted in the sound of Basic Channel and Detroit techno, and for the most part avoiding the wobble frenzy of the UK origins, this mix features more producers from outside of the Homeland pushing the boundaries of the genre. This is without a doubt the best dubstep mix in a long time. For more info, booking etc, please refer to DJ Bebe's myspace.

Exclusive!Posted by Zzzune Fri, April 25, 2008 20:33:52 I managed to get my hands on this mysterious mixtape. The story goes it was left in the toilet at Dunkel in one of those bags usually used for synthetically manufactured drugs. I'm not the one to say but after it was handed to me, someone whispered in my ear that the Dj who put it together, is a afghan refugee living in the sewers of Copenhagen. Much like the teenage mutant turtles, only this guy is neither teenager nor turtle, but he is kind of mutated. He sneaks around clubs, studios and other places where the Copenhagen youth hangs out, and with his little mutated fingers he snatches records and CD's out of their bags and that is how he's got such an impressive collection of unreleased material. He is not much of a dj though. As you can hear the wet sewers and the old stolen equipment with wich the tape was recorded affected the sound quality and I can only imagine how hard it must be to mix the tracks tight when rats are biting your fingers and chewing on the cabels. At the end you can even hear how the rats finally gnaw their way through the cables and put the beats to an end.
Since there is some tracks on here that might catch our readers attention I digitized the tape (it was still dripping with brown nasty water when I did it...) and put it up here. Funny thing is there's a Worthy track on there and we were just told that Worthy is coming to play with us at Club For Heroes next thursday. Also Turboweekend are releasing their new Remix 12" next friday but somehow one of the tracks ended up on this mixtape... And a new remix by copenhagen top dj, MHM-One and even danish balkan hippies Analogik can be heard here.
Turboweekend - My Name Is Legion (Krazy Fiesta remix) Tomski & Fredboy - Tartelet (James Braun remix, unreleased premaster) The Vegetable Orchestra - Pumpkin feat. MC Veggie (Martini Bros. Jam Mix) The Skull - All You Booty Shakers. Analogik - HOV (The Menu Sarracen mix, unreleased) Tomski & Fredboy - Tartelet (MHM-one remix, unreleased premaster) Soul Phonic - Donkey Shot (Deadset Play Up Mix) Worthy - Work the Walls Idiotproof - The Deacon (Oliver $ made to play dub)
Exclusive!Posted by Zzzune Mon, April 07, 2008 22:11:08 Just stumbled across this photo from our gig with Dj/Rupture at MS Halfmachine. There's some footage from the party on their site as well, featuring some of our mash ups as soundtrack.. It sure was some nice light gadgets those geeks from 8 bit klubben had put together!
We get a lot of weird stuff in our inbox, not all of it is worth posting and obviously most of it is promotion stuff for parties and new releases but we also get a lot of original material and remixes from you guys - unfortunately we rarely get around to actually posting any of it. But please don't stop sending us tracks, we do appreciate it and some of them end up on our playlist even if they don't make it to the blog. Anyway, here's a couple of tracks that ticked in within the last week or so, including a dj tool from the latest Riva Starr release on Claude Vonstroke's Dirtybird imprint and an unreleased Brett Johnson remix. What else is new around here? Well, MHM-1 told me he is going to release his first 12" on Tartelet Records and that he is working on remixes for Martinez and danish indie rockers I Got You On Tape and their song Sommersault - give it a listen if you need a mental stray.
Exclusive!Posted by James Braun Mon, February 18, 2008 03:01:35 On a windy April night in 2000, I went to Copenhagen to see two Swedes, which I adored more than any electronic act at the time. And at that time, they were both around 20 years old, had released over 60 records (of which I have about 15 or something), and ran 7+ record labels. They called themselves La Cienda Honduras, and they were the front-runners of a Scandinavian revolution, bringing the fun back in house music, together with people like Håkan Lidbo, Kompis, Bjørn Torske, Jori Hulkkonen and Erot. And it was indeed a fun time. La Cienda Honduras and the other artists, swept me off my feet almost everytime they released something new and sounded unique. Especially compared to the rather boring club house scene from the UK, and the more ”classic” stuff from the US. It was all about having a good time, and being weird, which was very much needed and refreshing at the time. Labels worth mentioning include Svek, Tellé, DK and Gungeligung. On April 7th 2000, La Cienda Honduras (consisting of Martin Venetjoki and Tony Senghore) gave their first and only concert in Copenhagen, at a small place that doesn’t exist anymore. DJ Daniel recorded the concert for me, and introduced me to them. I still remember talking to Tony Senghore while he was drinking some kind of lemon vodka straight from the bottle. Again, they’re Swedish... Now, almost 8 years and probably a hundred records later, they’re both still hyper-active producers. Tony runs a few labels and has produced under some other aliases, such as Swiss T and Wackdaddies (with Paul Woolford). Sadly, La Cienda Honduras doesn’t exist anymore, but here’s a couple of recommendations from that time: La Cienda Honduras – Vi Kommer Tillbaka... Igen! La Cienda Honduras & Håkan Lidbo – Everybody Dance Martin Venetjoki – Jump & Shout! (Remixes)
La Cienda Honduras was something way ahead of it’s time, and listening to it now is as much a surprising and for the time, futuristic journey into what was going to be cut-up fidget house as we know it today, as it is pure nostalgia. Now, go listen to this live exclusive:
Exclusive!Posted by James Braun Tue, December 11, 2007 02:22:47 The old Djuna Barnes was born in 1892 in the USA and grew up to be a writer who played an important part in the development of 20th century English language modernist writing and was one of the key figures in 1920s and 30s bohemian Paris after filling a similar role in the Greenwich Village of the teens. Her novel 'Nightwood' became a cult work of modern fiction, helped by an introduction by T.S. Eliot. It stands out today for its portrayal of lesbian
themes and its distinctive writing style. The current Djuna Barnes was born in Denmark in 1978. She's the number one female dj here and she too is portraying urban and lesbian themes subjectively in the only good newspaper in Denmark and playing all over the place, all the time. She just did this semi-exclusive dj set for us. Check it out! --->

He told me he came up with it while back packing somewhere in India so im pretty sure it has something to do with hash... We featured him on DXD-R II - which you can still buy by the way - the track on the compilation was a deep electro house thingy and now he passed me this little cut up sweety he produced while shirking from work the other day. Exclusive to the DØD blog, Enjoy!
